Thirteen contemporary artists are putting on a show of recent works; these are composed of art students and 2009 graduates—Petra Didion, Stephen Genovese, Amber Harries, Kiki Hunwick, Marton Koblo, David Manea, Cherish Marrington, Matthew Moore, Adriana Purdy, David Sims, Antoinette Stewart, Joanna Sulkowski and Erin Tily-Laurie.

The plan for the aforementioned show was conceived when the generally affable group were hanging out… and having some drinks together. —A very offhanded beginning, yet when they gravitated to a theme, the power of interpretation began to flow—apparently limitless and malleable in the hands of gleeful art students and mature artists alike.

The theme is not necessarily presented with strong negativity; nor is it a celebration of lies and deception. This is rather a well-balanced meal—containing the recent work of contemporary art students and graduates exploring the untruths (and the phenomenon thereof) through a range of mediums and concepts. The group hopes to scratch the surface of human nature when dealing with issues of personality, behavior and physical interaction.

Thus, interpretation of The Untruths inevitably comes now to you in many forms; it cavorts in paintings, installations, drawings and sculptures: from beginning to end, you are promised a lot of amusing and strange things to look at. —United by theme, it is a colourful conglomeration of responses from the diverse minds of these thirteen artists.

i live in: Perth, Western Australia.

my art is about: Life, Death, Nature.

currently working on: getting my website together, which should happen within the next couple of weeks and an exhibition at the Museum of Western Australia.

i make art to: describe a moment and express a notion that is best realised with paper and ink.

my day/night job is: creating installations for the windows of Dilettante and working on my label Of Cabbages & Kings.

would like to learn: Taxidermy.

inspired by: process and the pursuit for refinement of technique.

i love to: feel the sense of accomplishment that comes with finishing a difficult piece of work.

i hate to: accidently dip my bush in my coffee and take a large sip of paint water.

what question would you ask other artists:  how many roads must a man work down before you can call him a man?

answer your question: Seven, no wait, eight.

would like to travel to: Japan, again.

my favorite artist is: that’s so difficult, but if I had to pick just one it would be Goya. Very close would be Andy Goldsworthy, Dale Chihuly, Cai Guo-Qiang, Patricia Piccinini and Ernst Haeckel.

next exhibition: is still in development, (working out the dates) but it will be at the Museum of Western Australia sometime later in the year.
