Band members wanted
Ben Barretto has been an active artist for a long time. I originally met Ben through a dubious mutual skateboarding relation but has since been on the radar for more project based art works, which have been both impressive visually and conceptually.
Often the ‘Rube Goldberg’ quality of Ben’s works coupled with the scale of the installation work is the most striking aspect, but with a dash of medium transcendence in the melting pot this proves an interesting recipe.
Ben has a show of new works coming up which includes more sound elements than previous projects I’ve seen. The show will include “…several musical instruments all directed by the humble pedestal fan, his chosen materials are forced to extend beyond their apparent functionality…” and “…ideas of material and function explored in a series of recent paintings…”
The show opens on Thursday June 10th, 6pm at Freerange, 339 Wellington Street, Perth. It runs Friday through Monday 10am-4pm.
